GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport softball team was back at home today as they hosted UM-Dearborn in a WHAC doubleheader. The Panthers shut out the Wolves in both games as they won 2-0 and 11-0. The wins secure them at least a share of the WHAC regular season championship. The game was also in honor of putting a stop to domestic violence and donations were made to Sacred Beginnings and the Cristi Curtis memorial scholarship fund.
DU collected 10 hits in game one today, but only had two runs to show for their work as they left 12 runners on base.
Ashleigh Blovsky had a big first game as she connected three times. In the second inning, it was
Amber Getty that hit a single to bring in the first run of the game for DU.
Davenport added their second run in the third inning on an RBI from
Paige Sant'Angelo. That was her 28th of the season, which is second on the team.
Neither team would score again in the game as the Panthers won 2-0.
Karlee Despres earned the win tallying seven strikeouts.
Game two have a lot more offense as Davenport totaled nine runs in the first two innings and won 11-0 in five innings. In the first inning Getty was the first to cross home plate. With bases loaded,
Liz Veltman doubled bringing in all three runners giving DU a 4-0 lead.
The hits were flying in the third second inning.
Ali Dawson, Sant'Angelo, and
Katie Cornman all reached base on single. Blovsky followed with a single of her own to score Dawson. Despres then stepped up to bat and nailed a grand slam bringing Davenport's lead to 9-0.
The Panthers would add two more runs when Veltman hit a two-run homer to left center, which was her second homerun of the season.
Sam Cole earned her 20th win of the season on the mound. She threw seven strikeouts over five innings of work. Blovsky would finish the day with five hits.

Davenport is guaranteed the No. 1 seed in the WHAC tournament, which begins next week…DU is now 11-5 all-time against UM-Dearborn…Veltman's 5 RBIs ties for 2nd most in a single game…Today was the last home game for seniors
