BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – In their second day of competition at Olivet Nazarene University, the Davenport softball team put two more notches in the win column with wins over Judson (2-1) and Aquinas (5-3).  Their record now stands at 22-12 as conference play continues this week at Indiana Tech on Wednesday.

Pitcher Sam Cole allowed one run on two hits in the first inning of Davenport's first game of the day, but Judson would not score the rest of the game.  The Panthers would not put their own runs of the game on the board until the fifth inning.  With three runners on base, Katie Cornman singled through the left side driving in one run.  When Ashleigh Blovsky stepped up to the plate, she also had three runners on base.  With a walk the second run of the game came in.

That would be all the offense Davenport would need in the game as Cole earned her twelfth win of the season with the 2-1 victory.  Cornman would finish the game with three hits.

The second game of the day pitted the Panthers against a familiar foe in Aquinas College.  DU split with the Saints earlier in the week and were looking to finish the ONU tournament with the win.

Aquinas would be the first to score with a run in the first inning.  The game would remain scoreless until the top of the fifth inning.  Liz Veltman reached base on a single up the middle.  Then Paige Sant'Angelo hit a homerun to left center giving Davenport the 2-1 lead.

The Panthers kept the momentum going in the sixth inning as DU added three more runs.  The first run came in on an RBI single from Deb Burton.  Karlee Despres then homered to left center for the second run.  Finally, Sant'Angelo doubled to left field driving in the final run of the inning.

Aquinas would add another run of their own in the bottom of the sixth bringing the score to 5-2.  The Saints tried mounting a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with an additional run to pull within two, but the Panther defense finished them off with the score at 5-3.  Despres earned the win from the mound with eight strikeouts.

Post-Game Comments – Head Coach Ronda Varnesdeel

On today's performance: "It was nice to be able to take care of business in both games today as we continue into conference play next week."

On Sant'Angleo at the plate in game two: "Paige had been struggling with a few things in her swing in recent games and it was great to see her make the adjustments against Aqunias and provide us with two key hits."
