GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport men's soccer will make their home debut on Saturday, September as they welcome in Mount Vernon Nazarene University to the Turf Field. Game time is set for 7:00pm as the teams will meet for the third consecutive season. The Panthers posted a 3-2 win at home in 2010 before the two teams played to a draw last season down in Ohio. Live video and stats will be available for all home matches throughout the 2012 campaign.
The Panthers got their season started this past weekend with a 2-game trip to Alabama where they posted identical 0-2 setbacks against Faulkner University and #9 Auburn Montgomery.
Mirza Harambasic got the start in goal for the Panthers and finished with eight saves and .667 save percentage. Leading in shots for DU was
JC Smith and
Bernard Brnada who had three each on net.
Mount Vernon Nazarene, who is now in the Crossroads League (formerly the MCC), is 1-1 on the season with a loss to WHAC foe Northwestern Ohio and a 3-1 win over Shawnee State. The Cougars are traditionally one of the top teams in the region and their move to the MCC last season saw them finish in eighth place with a 3-6 mark in conference and they went 7-11-1 overall in 2011.
The two teams have met twice in their history and both meetings have been tight on the scoreboard. In 2010, Alex Boehm recorded only the 6th hat-trick in DU school history to lift the Panthers to a 3-2 win and then last season the squads dueled to a 0-0 draw.
