Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – Davenport held a two goal lead on two separate occasions before Bowling Green State tied the game up with two goals on a major power play. The Panthers took a 4-3 lead into the final period, but were outscored 3-0 in the third as they fell 6-4. DU will look to bounce back next weekend as they play Hope College and Adrian-Gold, the top two teams in the north region.
Davenport got off to a good start in the first period as they built a two goal lead.
Branden Burton scored the first goal for the Panthers with
Jake Otto and
Garrett Russell picking up the assists. Later in the period
Jordan Steger found
Ben Duthler in the slot and DU went up 2-0.
The Falcons scored first in the second period to cut the Panthers lead in half. Then, with 11:26 left in the period
Zack Feher gave DU another two goal lead as he scored an unassisted goal. The games momentum shifted quickly in middle of the second period as
Patrick Martin was called for a five minute major. The Falcons went on to score two goals on the ensuing major power play to tie the game 3-3. The game remained tied for a short time after
Bryon Guerin scored a shorthand goal to put the Panthers up 4-3.
In the third period Davenport was unable to put the game away as they had several scoring chances. The Falcons scored 1:40 into the period to tie the game and then added two more goals to clinch the win.
Davenport has a huge week next week as they take on the top two teams in the north region. The Panthers have a home-and-away series against No.2 Hope College on Friday and Saturday, and the host No.1 Adrian-Gold at Patterson Ice Center on Sunday afternoon. Both home games on Friday and Sunday will be broadcast live on the Davenport Athletic Network.
