Swink saw that his team was down, and with the help of Blake Damerow, cut Oakland's lead to just one with 1:56 left on the clock.

The Panthers went into the third period down 2-3. Davenport's defense worked to successfully protect Cruse and the home net during several power plays in the first half of the third period. The tables had turned and Davenport was given a five on three power play chance but Gagnon was a brick wall against several strong goal possibilities. Intense play by both teams persisted throughout the scoreless third period. With a minute left Coach Chris Green pulled Cruse for a last minute effort but Du wasn't able to find the back of the net.
