FORT WAYNE, Ind. – With their backs to the wall down two sets to one and own 18-17 late in the fourth, Davenport rallied to score eight of the final 10 points to keep them alive and then dominated the fifth set 15-6 to pick up a thrilling 5-set win at Indiana Tech. The victory gets the No. 23 ranked Panthers back on track in league action and improves their overall record to 21-7. DU will host Marygrove and IU-South Bend on Saturday.
Hannah Stone had a standout night for head coach Megan Lenhart as the junior posted a team leading 14 kills, while hitting at a .500 clip and added 4.5 blocks to lead the Panthers to a critical WHAC win. Marcey DeHaan contributed 12 kills in the winning effort while Amber Getty dished out 39 assists. Lexie Spetoskey led the defensive effort with 16 digs while adding a pair of aces.
After falling in the opening set by the slimmest of margins (25-23), DU seemed to take full control of the match with a convincing 25-21 win in the second but the host Warriors played a flawless third, walking away with a 25-14 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
Early on in the fourth, Davenport looked to have the momentum but after a Marcey DeHaan kill that gave them a 13-11 DU was unable to keep that momentum going with the Warriors scoring seven of the next 11 points to lead 18-17. Facing what would be a tough loss in league action, DU then got a pair of kills from Hannah Stone and one each from Amber Getty and Molly Lameyer to eventually finish off the comeback 25-20.
DU then quieted the home crowd with a quick spurt to start the fifth set, outscoring the Warriors 7-3 in the opening 10 points and they never looked back claiming the victory on a kill by senior Nicole Chase.
Davenport will now host a tri on Saturday featuring a WHAC contest against Marygrove at Noon and then a non-conference match vs. Indiana South Bend at 4 p.m.
Post-Match Notes
Davenport has now defeated the Warriors in three consecutive meetings…The Panthers stay just one match behind conference leader Madonna in the WHAC standings…DU has won 15 of their last 17 matches overall and are 15-3 in the last two seasons in conference play
