GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After picking up a pair of quality wins last week over Aquinas College and Northwestern Ohio, the men's soccer team will return to the pitch on Saturday when they play host to cross-town foe Cornerstone University in a 7 p.m. match. Davenport, winners of their last nine matches overall, are looking at staying perfect in the conference as they are currently 7-0 in the WHAC.

Scouting Cornerstone – 7-5-1, 3-3-1 WHAC– Head coach Mark Bell (16th season)
Veteran head coach Mark Bell and the Golden Eagles come into the week with an overall record of 7-5-1 and are 3-3-1 in league action. The team raced out to a 6-2 overall start but has won just one of his last five matches including a tie against Madonna last week and a 2-0 setback to Marygrove at home. CU, which has claimed the last two regular season WHAC titles, graduated a bulk of their roster from 2012 but still has some great talent and Bell will continue to look to Mario Williams (4 goals) as well as Richard Moylan (3 goals) and Gareth Flynn (3 goals) for the offensive punch. The have have accumulated over half of the team's 17 goals on the season while Miguel Cervantes has manned the net posting a 0.90 GAA and 68 saves.
National Statistical Rankings
Davenport ranks inside the Top-50 nationally in seven different categories lef by Total Goals (No. 7 - 48) and Total Assists (No. 11 - 33). They also rank high in Shots on Goal (No. 33) and Total Shutouts (No. 36). Individually, Dzenan Catic ranks inside the Top-40 in nine different categories led by his No. 1 ranking in game winning goals (6) and No. 3 ranking in Total Goals (17).
Around the WHAC
Davenport took full control of the WHAC after defeating Aquinas and UNOH last week as they stand at 21 points through seven matches. UNOH and Marygrove have 12 points each as they are both 4-2 and the most they can get to is 24 total points on the year. DU will need just three points over its last three matches to clinch at least a share of its first WHAC title since 2010.
