Panthers Break Third Period Tie to Beat Lansing CC in First MCHC Conference Game

LANSING, Mich. - Davenport beats Lansing Community College 4-2 after heading into the third period with a 2-2 tie. Jake Otto scored two goals for DU including the goal to put them in the lead during the final period of the game. Daniel Swink captured an empty net goal for the Panthers with 17 seconds to play.

The first period of play appeared as if it would be scoreless, as both teams tried to strike the back of the net first. The Patrick Martin was able to overcome the heavy defensive play and squeeze one by LCC's goalie with a little less than five minutes to go. Davenport's skaters were able to prevent the Stars from scoring and the first period ended with a DU 1-0 lead.

Lansing CC's leading scorer Will Badner scored just a little over a minute into the second period to tie the game. The game remained aggressive from both sides of the ice through the end of the period. Jake Otto capitalized on a goal after passes from Willis Gelow and Dugan Kelley giving his team the 2-1 advantage with less than eight minutes to play. The Stars got one more goal from Badner in the second with 3:24 to equal out the scores for the last period of play.

Both teams played excellent hockey as the third period reached its second half. Jake Otto brought a hail of applause from Panther fans as he scored putting DU up 3-2 in the third. LCC didn't stop playing to their fullest potential but it wasn't enough. The Stars pulled their goalie with a under a minute to play but Davenports defense was able to clear the puck out of the zone, giving Daniel Swink a quick empty net goal to finish the game.
