The first period was full of action between Davenport and Lansing CC. The Panthers controlled the puck during the majority of the period and it paid off when
Patrick Martin struck the back of the net six minutes and 50 seconds into the game. Martin scored the first goal of the game yesterday against LCC also. DU's defense was able to protect
John Cruse enough to keep the enemy team scoreless. Two and a half minutes after the Panthers first goal
Donald Sund slipped a shot past the Stars goalie while his team was on the power play to put his team in the lead 2-0 after period one.
The Panthers offense commanded the second period.
Bryon Guerin started off DU's train of success with a wrist shot in front which nailed the back of goal while his team was shorthanded just four minutes in. LCC was able to capture two goals from Fred Wanke and Bryce Lewan and the pair put their team down by only one. Ten seconds following LCC's second goal
Daniel Swink responded aggressively with an immediate drive to the net and a quick Goal for the Panthers. One minute later, with six minutes and 40 seconds to go, Swink grabbed a pass from Team Captain Garret Garber and scored his second of the night. Dugan Kelley didn't let Davenports opportunities end there, and fifteen seconds later he pounded another puck past the Stars goalie.
Coming into the third with a 6-2 lead, Davenport just had to concentrate on protecting Cruse and maintaining their lead. Davenport and LCC battled through power play situations in the beginning of the third but neither team to capitalize on a goal. Numerous chances sprouted for the Panthers but they couldn't find the back of the net in the third period. Halfway into tonight's final period of play Coach
Chris Green decided to give
Tyler Kuehl his first minutes in goal as a Panther and he captured a few saves for his team and didn't let the puck past him.
