GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –Davenport remained in power during the third period, scoring two goals to break a dangerous tie and defeat Louisville 5-3 in the final game of their weekend series. Bryon Guerin was a massive part of the offensive success of both games against Louisville, scoring two goals in both of the games. The outstanding protection of DU's goalie Andrew Habasevich by team captain Garret Garber and the rest of the defense remains a large part of this weekend's success against UofL.

Right from the first faceoff both teams immediately brought the intensity. Within the first thirty seconds of period one the University of Louisville had put a quick point on the board. The Panthers did not hesitate to respond and Bryon Guerin tied the game up just a few short minutes following. The last 15 minutes of the first period remained goalless but both teams kept firing shots.

Just as it happened last night, UofL and DU went into the second period with a 1-1 tie. The University of Louisville was able to get the upper hand three minutes into the period but the Panthers did not let that discourage. Jake Hambidge put Jordan Crawford in perfect scoring position with a prime pass which Crawford flicked right past the enemy goalie to tie the game 2-2. Jake Otto found the back of the net just three minutes later when Garret Garber skated down ice with the puck, passed it to Sund and formed a one-timed pass that Otto finished with a slap shot. DU maintained a lead for several minutes but Nolan Matsen for the Cardinals tied the game once again with four minutes to play.

Both teams needed to break the third period tie as quickly as possible. Guerin once again became an offensive model for his team when he was able to give his team the edge they needed on the score board after his second goal of the night in the first half of the third period. Just a few minutes later Blake Damerow gave his team some much needed breathing room with a wrist shot right in front of the Cardinals goalie following passes from Sund and Cody Mathieu, which hit the top shelf of the net. Ten minutes remained after DU earned their 5-3 lead, and they planned on keeping it. The Defense executed remarkable play as they defended Andrew Habasevich in net. Several close calls appeared during the last few minutes of the game but no points were added to the score.

Next weekend the Panthers will have one game against Michigan- Flint Friday at 8:20 p.m. where they will try to improve their ned 10-2 season record.
