Men’s D3 Hockey 1-0 in Civil War ACHA Showcase after a 10-2 Win over Ole Miss

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Davenport's Men's D3 hockey team started off the Civil War- ACHA Showcase with a bang, defeating Ole Miss 10-2. Forward Donald Sund had a five point night, delivering two goals to the back of the net and capturing 3 assists. The Panthers tallied up an impressive 41 shots on their unsuspecting southern foes. They look for similar luck at 6 p.m. EST tomorrow against Auburn University.

The Panther offense came to Ala., ready to play tonight scoring four goals and completing 7 assists in the first. Davenport's defense, along with goalie John Cruse, didn't let a single shot reach the back of the net during the first period of the play. By the time the clock reached zero in the first, Donald Sund had a goal and an assist, Jake Otto had two assists and Freshman Parker Lint scored his first goal ever for Davenport after receiving a pass from Spencer Bajko.

The success of the Panthers didn't stop after the first period. Jake Otto received a pass from Sund and scored a goal while the team was shorthanded. Ole Miss finally managed to squeeze a shot pass Cruze and put themselves on the board; Davenport was up 5-1. DU didn't let an enemy goal discourage them, and with two minutes to play in the second, Patrick Martin got his second goal of the night after a few swift passes from Lint and Jake Hambidge.

Davenport walked on the ice for one more period of play with a 6-1lead to start off the third. Ole Miss earned themselves a penalty at the beginning of the third period, and DU took advantage when Brandon Burton scored a power-play goal. With a 7-1 lead, three more Panthers delivered the puck to the back of the Ole Miss net before the game had ended with a score of 10-2. Ole Miss scored one more at the end, but Davenports D3 hockey team couldn't have left happier.

The boys have less than 24 hours to rest until they look for their second win of the tournament tomorrow against Auburn University at 6 p.m. EST
