HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Davenports D3 Hockey team had their first shutout of the season and their third win of the weekend 3-0 against Alabama this morning. Defender Jake Hambidge had a big role on the defensive and offensive today, scoring two goals for the Panthers. The North took the Civil War Title for the second consecutive year.
Panther Goalie John Cruse records his first shutout of the year, Davenport beat Alabama 3-0. In the first period of play DU saw its first goal after Blake Damerow flicked a pass to defender Jake Hambidge who was able to get it passed Alabama's goaltender. The second period saw a bit more offensive action when Donald Sund made a quick pass to Brandon Burton who gave it to Hambidge for his second goal of the night. Jake Otto scored his second goal of the tournament with one second left in the second period to give the panthers their win over Alabama University.
Last year at the Civil War- ACHA Showcase the Panthers lost to both Alabama and Ole Miss, but this year Davenport was able to beat both teams and sweep the tournament. DU had 24 goals over the last three days and the southern teams scored only 3 goals in total against the Panthers.
The Panthers come out the tournament with a 5-0 record and more games to prepare for. Next weekend they will look ahead to play for a two game series against Oakland University starting on Friday at Oakland's home rink in Rochester, Mich. They come home Saturday at 5:20 at Patterson Ice Center.
