GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport dominated play throughout all of game two V.S. Saginaw Valley State. After the Panthers managed to put up an astounding seven goals in the first period, including a hat-trick by Donald Sund, all they had to do was not shoot themselves in the foot. Zack Feher and Willis Gelow both picked up their first goals of the season and Cruise played phenomenal. Brandon Burton captured four points for his team. The Panthers went on to win 10-2, completely owning game two. Next Weekend Adrian College- Black is on their horizon with two games starting at Patterson Friday at 8:20 p.m., the second is Saturday in Adrian at 7 p.m.

High tensions from last night stuck around between these two teams and from the first puck drop you knew it was going to be a battle. Well it didn't seem like much of a battle because the Panthers put up seven goals in the first fifteen minutes of play. The home town offense took early control of this game and didn't let go of it for a second. Donald Sund started his time off right three minutes in with a sweet goal after a key pass from Jake Otto. Next up was Willis Gelow who scored his first goal of the season with a powerful slap shot from the pack of the Cardinals zone which flew right past SVSU's goalies head five minutes and forty seconds into the game. Sund would go on the score a hat-trick in the first. Stewart scored after a series of passes from Parker Lint and Spencer Bajko. DU's last goal of the first period was actually Zack Fehers first of the season who got a pass from Bryon Guerin and flipped it to the back of the net with four minutes and fifty-two seconds to play.

The Panthers came into the second period with a commanding seven goal lead, and what seemed like little worry of the chance for a comeback by the Cardinals. DU maintained control throughout the beginning of the second period. Bryon Guerin tipped the puck to Brandon Burton who was flying down the ice, giving him the breakaway opportunity where he pulled a stick move to confuse Leist and put his team up by 8 with 14 minutes to play in the second. The Cardinals scored their first goal of the game with a shot from Dylan Welch that slipped past John Cruse. The Panthers didn't panic and Otto scored one right back with eight minutes to play. Five minutes later, Otto capitalized again after passes from Sund and Burton.

The third period was all about sealing the deal for Davenport. All parties involved attributed to the Panthers control in the third period. The offense kept blasting shots at SVSU's goalie, the defense kept the opponents chances to a minimum, and Cruse was a brick wall between the posts. The Cardinals were able to score on a power-play opportunity with eleven minutes to play in the third despite the incredible amount of saves Cruse was producing. The offensive opportunities were still flowing throughout the last half of the third but Davenport couldn't get one past Leist for a late game goal. An eight goal win isn't a bad way to end a weekend sweep; the Panthers have the week to prepare for next weekend against Adrian College- Black.
