GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Following a 2-1 record over the weekend in which they lost to MSU Friday but won two in a row Saturday and Sunday against MSU and Farmingdale State, the 17-3-0-1 Panthers will host 11-5-0-2 Aquinas Friday at 8:20 p.m. at Patterson and follow-up with a game Saturday at Griff's Ice House beginning at 5:20 p.m. After this weekend series comes to a close the D3 hockey team will get a few weeks of rest before they conquer 2014.

Scouting Aquinas
The Saints record fell to 11-5-0-2 after losing two close games in a weekend series against Adrian College- Black last weekend, with final scores of 8-6 Friday and 3-4 Saturday. This season Aquinas has captured 82 goals and 117 assists for a grand total of 199 points. Saint offensive leader Doug Zelenka is at the top of the goal and point category for his team, scoring 14 goals and totaling 24 points this season. Corey Giffel has earned one more assist than Zelenka which gives him the leading position with 11.
Sean Schmeiser stands in net for the Saints and does so with a GAA of 3.32 and posting 210 saves during the 2013-2014 season.
Scouting Davenport
Davenport finished last weekend with a winning weekend record after a slow start on Friday with a 2-3 loss at MSU. Saturday they hosted the Spartans and were able to pull together a 5-2 win equaling out the series. Sunday DU hosted Farmingdale State and was able to continue a string of home wins by beating FSU 7-2.
Now with a record of 17-3-0-1, they look to Friday where they will host Aquinas for an 8:20 p.m. game at Patterson Ice Center. Saturday they will head down the road for a 5:20 p.m. game at Griff's Ice House to finish out the series and 2013.
Donald Sund controls two major offensive categories and is tied for the third making him a threat for the Panthers and a leader for his team. Sund has contributed an impressive 21 assists, 16 goals, for a combined 37 points.
Daniel Swink and
Jake Otto match Sund with 16 goals apiece, making up a huge part of the solid DU offense.
Willis Gelow and Garret Garber control the defensive side of Panther play and protect
John Cruse and
Andrew Habasevich while they keep the net free of pucks. Cruse holds an 8-3 record this season with a 2.21 GAA and 317 saves under his belt this season.
Following Saturdays game the Panthers have a few weeks off to get some rest and relaxation before they meet 2014 and the final weekend series before the national tournament comes and the season comes to a close.
