GRANDRAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers caught early momentum of tonight's game when Willis Gelow fired a shot from the back of the Spartans zone to find a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into period one. Sund struck next and they held their 2-0 lead throughout periods one and two. The scoring continued for a hungry Davenport team in the third when Swink capitalized just over thirty seconds in. The Spartans came back for a few minutes and put two on the board with 13 minutes to play but DU responded with two of their own which put MSU in their place for a 5-2 finish.

Davenport came out tonight ready to take game two away from the Michigan State Spartans, and during period one they did just that. Willis Gelow pointed his team in the right direction with a powerful slap shot following a Daniel Swink pass four minutes and forty seven seconds into period one that Spartan goalie Andrew Freeman didn't even seem to see. The Panther defense held control in their zone and the offense was generating opportunities and it was only a matter of time before another Davenport player would find the back of the net. That player was Donald Sund who flew down the ice and slipped one past Freeman six minutes after Gelow's goal.

The Panthers took their 2-0 lead into the second where they aimed to continue owning puck possession in this game. Freeman war a savior for his team as the Davenport offense kept pouring shots on him. Both teams kept each other scoreless throughout the first half of the second period while Freeman and Andrew Habasevich kept fierce positioning in the net. The game remained intense until the final moments of the second.

Swink had been looking a goal all night and he found it when an elaborate passing play from Blake Damerow and Bryon Geurin reached Swinks stick and it did not take him long to put it past Freeman and give his team a 3-0 lead and plenty of breathing room. MSU scored two goals which quickly brought them back in the game with just over half of the third period remaining. After a few minutes of panic, Branden Burton and Brandon Madaj both scored in the thirteenth minute of the third which brought the score to 5-2.
With a win and a loss under their belt this weekend they look at tomorrow where they will meet Farmingdale State here at Patterson Ice Center at 3:30 p.m.
