GEORGETOWN, Ky. – After compiling 37 hits to produce 21 runs in the last three games, the Davenport baseball team combined for eight hits in two games but could only bring a run across as No. 20 Georgetown College swept the doubleheader by the scores of 5-0 and 3-1 Friday afternoon. The Panthers split the four-game series with the Tigers and now turns their attention to a busy week in Florida, playing 10 games in seven days, starting at Warner University Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.
Game One
The Tigers (5-6) did all the damage in the first inning as
Danny Sullivan (0-1) couldn't find a rhythm. As Sullivan tried to find a momentum the Tigers took advantage of a costly error and a three-run home run to take a 4-0 lead. After the homer, Sullivan settled down a retired 16 of the next batters before handing the ball to
Alex Schuiling.
The top four hitters in the lineup,
Carlos Berroa,
Derek Dennis,
Jotham Woo and
Michael Allen, each tallied a hit for the Panthers (3-3). Berroa and Allen each stretched a hit to a double.
Game Two
After trailing 2-0 on a leadoff home run, followed by a walk and a RBI single in the second inning, the Panthers found a momentum in the fifth inning that got them back to within one run. With two out in the fourth, Allen reached on a fielder's choice before a big double to left field by Edward Grochowalski, Jr. brought in the only run in the game.
Starter
Corey Sessions (0-1) threw five innings and allowed all three runs while surrendering six hits and a walk. Grochowalski was the only Panther to have a multi-hit game as he produced another base hit in the second inning.
