GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport softball is making their journey to the Sunshine state for the fifth straight year as they will play in the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. beginning Sunday. Head coach Ronda Varnesdeel and her team will play 12 games in seven days beginning with a pair of games against Alma and St. Thomas (Fla.) two days from now. The Lady Panthers are 1-2-1 after opening their season last weekend at the Lyon College Tournament in Batesville, Ark. Every game will be broadcast live on the Davenport Athletics Network and live stats will also be available.

Davenport softball enters their busiest week of the season in their annual trip to Florida to compete at the NTC Training Center. The Panthers will play against four different teams in the first three days and follow with five different opponents over the next three days after one off-day.

A Quick Look at Alma - Alma has been one of the premier teams in the NCAA D3 MIAA conference under head coach Denny Griffin. The Scots have won 13 league titles in his 24 years at the helm.

A Quick Look at Wilmington - The NCAA DII foe is under the direction of second year head coach Lauren Rizzo and they went 26-25 in her first season in 2012. The Wildcats were picked third in their conf. preseason poll.

A Quick Look at St. Thomas - The Bobcats are the only team DU will face in the first four days that has already played as they are 0-2. Head coach Jeff Norman and his squad are always competitive in the SUN Conference.

A Quick Look at SUNY-Canton - 2013 marks the second straight year DU will face the Kangaroos. SUNY is under the direction of first year head coach Jackie Klahold who was a standout NCAA DI player at Florida Atlantic.

Notes

Balanced Hitting - Through the first four games of 2013, DU has a very balanced lineup in terms of average as three players are over .400 and two more over .300. Carli SanMillan and Debra Burton lead the way at .455.

Early Homerun Power - Ashleigh Blovsky, who finished second on the team with 7 HR's a year ago, is off to a great start in the power department in 2013 as she already has two in her first four games.

Countdown to Farmers Athletic Complex Opening Day - Davenport will open its new state of the art facility on March 20 when they welcome in Bethel College (Ind.). A special ceremony will take place before the opening pitch and there will also be a home baseball doubleheader that day against Cornerstone.
