Big Second Quarter lifts Davenport Past Ohio

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport improved to 2-0 on the season with a 21-5 win over Ohio University on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers offense exploded for nine goals in the second period to build a 15-3 lead at the half and then cruised in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 7-2. Dominic Boggiano led DU in scoring with 5 goals while Lyle Parks added 4, and Cody Cross and Jordan Richtsmeier each added three.
 
Ohio was able to keep on pace with the Panthers for the first 7:16 of the game when they were tied 2-2. From that point until the end of the third quarter DU outscored the Bobcats 18-1 including 12 straight goals.
 
In the second half the Panthers came out with a solid defensive performance and shutout the Bobcats in the third quarter. DU benefited from three extra-man opportunities in the third and converted on each chance.
 
In the fourth quarter the Panthers let off the gas and ate up some clock. DU and Ohio each scored two twice in the final stanza to give Davenport the 22-5 victory. Bill Linhardt picked up his first win in net for the Panthers improving to 1-0 on the year.

Davenport finished the game winning 15 out of 29 face-offs…Linhardt finished the day with 6 saves in net…Davenport's next game will be in Arizona on March 16 as they face off against the University of Arizona.
