Box Score

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Davenport baseball team trailed for most of the game but a two-run rally in the eighth inning lifted the Panthers to a 3-2 victory at Webber International Thursday. The Panthers are 4-1 during their spring break tour in Florida, while improving to 7-5 on the year.

Starter Zach Liebman struggled from the beginning but he held the Warriors to two runs on three hits and two walks before handing the ball to Ryan Butzer (1-1). Butzer continued pitched solid, throwing four shutout innings, and for the second consecutive day, Colton Satterlee allowed only one hit but managed to close the door for the save.

Leadoff hitter Ryan Manning and ninth spot batter Eric Cummings both produced two of the Panthers nine-hit evening. Manning and Michael Allen also stretch a base hit into a double.

Liebman ran into trouble in the first inning when he hit the leadoff hitter and a catcher's interference by Michael Allen allowed two runners on. The Warriors would use a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over, and a sacrifice fly followed by a single up the middle brought them a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers were able to cut the deficit in half in the third inning when Jotham Woo's ground out was enough to bring Ryan Manning home from third.

After struggling to get runners on base, the Panthers found it in the eighth. Woo hit a one-out single to left and Allen hit a long fly ball to left center, the wind may have kept it into the field of play as the baseball hit the fence for a double. Woo would tie the game on a wild pitch and Carlos Berroa brought in the go-ahead run with a single up the middle.

Davenport will now make the first of two visits to Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale to play a nine-inning game with Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) Friday at 2:30 p.m.

 Post-Game Notes

Davenport extends its lead in the all-time series against Webber International to 4-2…Michael Allen has recorded a hit in all five games this week thus being on a five-game hitting streak.
