Panthers Pick up 4-3 OT Win over Hope in MCHC Semifinal

Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. - The semifinals of the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC) features three teams that will battle for a national championship in just a few weeks in Springfield, Mo. but they first had to decide a conference tournament championship. Davenport got off to a great start by posting a 4-3 (OT) win over rival Hope on Friday night at their own barn to advance to Saturday's championship game at 3:30pm against Adrian-Gold who defeated Oakland in the other semifinal

Davenport continued their hot streak at the end of the season after picking up a big 4-3 overtime win over rival Hope on Friday night. The Panthers had a 3-1 lead, only to see the Dutchmen come back to tie it but DU prevailed in overtime to finish with their third win in a row over Hope this season.

Head coach Chris Green, who had last weekend off as the region's No. 1 ranked team, got back on the ice at the Edge (Holland) and stormed out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Patrick Martin and Jake Otto. Picking up helpers were Garrett Russell, Bryon Guerin and Brandon Burton.

Each team would pick up a goal in the second as Russell made an outstanding individual play and DU took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Fighting for their lives in the third, Hope came out flying and put in two goals to tie it and send the game to overtime.

Davenport had the final answer however as Guerin scored from Burton and Donald Sund to give DU the win in overtime. John Cruse picked up the win in net as DU now faces Adrian-Gold in the title game. The Panthers will be looking for their second straight MCHC Tournament crown on Saturday when they face the Bulldogs at 3:30pm.
