Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Panthers Past Wildcats

TUCSON, ARIZ. – Trailing 10-7 heading into the final period of play Davenport outscored Arizona 7-2 to pick up a 14-12 win over No. 22 Wildcats. Jordan Richtsmeier led the Panthers comeback scoring three of his game high five goals in the fourth and adding an assist. DU will continue their road trip Saturday as they take on No. 24 Grand Canyon University. The Panthers will also play at No. 6 Arizona State on Sunday.

The Panthers trailed the Wildcats for the majority of the game until they took lead halfway through the forth. Nathaniel Adkins got the first goal of the game less than two minutes in, but Arizona responded with three straight goals to  take a 3-2 lead after the first period.

The Wildcats came out in the second period and built their lead to three with two quick goals. Dominic Boggiano and Daniel Hume responded with goals for DU to narrow the gap which sat at 6-4 heading into the second half.

Arizona took their largest lead of the game in the third period when they doubled up the Panthers 8-4. From this point on the Panthers outscored the wild cats 10-4 to close the game. Richtsmeier, Cody Cross, and Lyle Parks scored in the third to pull the Panthers within two goals at 9-7 heading into the final stanza.

Despite being outscoring the Wildcats 7-3 in the fourth, the Panthers were outshot by Arizona 17-10. Eric Lindstrom came up with seven big saves to keep DU in the game.  After a goal from Hume and three straight goals from Richtsmeier Adkins gave the  Panthers their first lead of the game since and early 1-0 lead with 4:20 left. Cross and Boggiano added the final goals to seal the comeback win for the Panthers.

Davenport has two more games against ranked opponents on their road trip. The Panthers face #24 Grand Canyon on Saturday and #6 Arizona State on Sunday.

Post-Game Notes
The Wildcats attempted 61 shots at the net compared to 26 for Davenport…Lindstrom finished the game with 17 saves…The Panthers struggled with face-offs winning  9 of 29.
