Davenport Sets Four School Records at Grand Rapids Open

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In the first outdoor meet of the year the Panthers had a strong showing with four first place finishes. The Panthers winners were Stacey Baron in the 3000m steeplechase, Rachel Jerrils in the 600m, Sam Frens in the 110m hurdles, and Hannah Payne in the long jump. DU will travel to Louisville, Ky. next weekend for the Bellarmine Invitational.

Davenport got off to a good start in the first track event of the day as Stacey Baron and Kelsee VanderBaan competed in their first steeplechase. Baron took the top spot with a school record of 12:26.56 while Vanderbaan finished in second at 12:45.74.

The second school record that fell on Saturday came in the women's 600m. Rachel Jerrils used a strong last 100m to take the lead and edge out second place by .08 of a second with a time of 1:38.32.

Dustin Brummel and Tori Brooks  also set school records. Brummel finished in 9th place with a time of 9:03.70 in the 3000m while Brooks finished in fourth in the high jump with a final jump of   6' 2.75”.

DU picked up two other first place finishes later in the day by Sam Frens and Hannah Jo Payne. Frens won the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.39. Payne won the women's long jump with a final jump of 17' 03.25”.
