GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Coming off a another pair of victories Sunday to extend its win streak to eight, the Davenport baseball team will have little time to rest as it will play eight games this week starting with a pair of Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference contests at Madonna Monday at 1 p.m. The Panthers will continue its league schedule as they head to Cornerstone Wednesday to play for the first time on a baseball diamond followed by entertaining Lourdes Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday's games can be heard live on the Davenport Athletics Network with Gene Halbert calling the action.

Davenport is proud to partner with the West Michigan Miracle League in Saturday's contest against the Gray Wolves to help raise awareness of the league's upcoming ballpark in Rockford, Mich. The Panthers were scheduled to work with the WMML last Sunday but had to be postponed due to weather conditions. Tony Comden, co-founder of the WMML, will be in attendance along with his son, Jed, as the Panthers will help them raise money to help complete the state-of-the-art baseball complex project in Rockford for a league that began in 2011. Before the two schools take the field, Jed will throw out the first pitch with his father by his side. The Panthers will also hold a 50/50 raffle with the winner announced and the end of the third inning of game two, with all proceeds going to the Miracle Field Foundation.

Before the Panthers take the field Sunday against Lourdes, they will honor their seniors Michael Allen, Corey Anderson, Jordan Anderson, Zach Liebman, Garrett Lovik, Drew Sain and Jotham Woo.

The Crusaders are coming off a four-game WHAC series sweep over Cornerstone last Saturday. Madonna won by the scores of 13-2 (7 innings), 6-5, 5-4 (10 innings) and 7-6. While three Crusaders are hitting over .300 on the year, Justin Cook has been perhaps the biggest threat with the bat, hitting .305 but stretching three doubles, a triple and three home runs while collecting 23 RBI. Brad Lineberry is leading the ballclub with a .414 average with eight doubles and three triples, but his best is baserunning, having stolen 14 bags and scoring 21 runs.

The Golden Eagles closed out a very long stretch of 10 road games and will now finish the remaining 13 games on the schedule at DeWitt Field. Cornerstone baseball is in its first season and is 11-20 on the year. Zach Harbison paces the new ballclub with a .324 batting average and is also leading the team in doubles (10), triples (2), homers (1), RBI (16) and stolen bases (8).

The Gray Wolves had a rare day Sunday at Concordia. The Cardinals pounded the Gray Wolves 14-5 in game one but the two WHAC foes ended up calling it a 3-3 draw in game two after seven innings due to darkness. Cole Fitzgerald is the only Gray Wolf to bat over .300 on the year as he is averaging .326. He also leads the team with eight doubles and has driven in 17 runs. John Crooks, who is carrying a .294 average, has stretched seven doubles but leads the team with four triples, three homers and 18 RBI. Tim DeCant has had a very impressive year on the base paths, going a perfect 19-for-19 in stolen bases and touching home plate 23 times.
