GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport went 10 innings today without producing a run and only managed 12 hits on the day with nine of those coming in the nightcap as they were swept by Cornerstone 3-0 and 5-4. The Panthers got shutout for just the second time this season in the opener and now stand two games behind both Cornerstone and Madonna at 7-3 in league play. Davenport, which is 24-11-1 overall, will host Hope College on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Farmers Athletic Complex.

Game 1 – L, 0-3

Davenport produced their second fewest hits in a single game this season as the Panthers mustered only three in the seven innings to fall in the opener 3-0. The only scoring in the game came in the third inning when the Golden Eagles plated three runs highlighted by a two-out triple that scored a pair of runs.

That was more than enough for CU starter Heidi Warmelink who lowered her season ERA to 0.53 after not allowing a run from the home team.

DU left runners on in the first, third and fifth innings but the only one to reach third was KC Dunne who came within a few feet of hitting a homerun in the bottom of the first. Sam Cole suffered the defeat on the mound as she finished the seven innings allowing nine hits and matching a season high with eight strikeouts.

Game 2 – L, 5-4

Cornerstone wasted little time putting up runs in the nightcap as they went for three in the opening frame on a homerun from Jenna Weightman. That would be the only scoring until the DU bats finally started to heat up in the fourth as they got back one of those runs on a ball put in play by Paige Sant'Angelo that scored KC Dunne.

The lead was cut to just one in the next inning when Maegan Jenkins scored on a wild pitch but DU would strand two again in part of eight for the game. After Cornerstone posted a pair of runs in the sixth inning, the Panthers put on their rally caps for the bottom of the seventh and cut the lead to just one after RBI's from Dunne and Ashleigh Blovsky. With runners on first and second with two outs, Paige Sant'Angelo lined a shot up the middle but it was snagged on a fine defensive play to end the game by the pitcher.

Kyleigh Linebaugh went 5.1 innings while giving up all five Cornerstone runs to fall to 8-5 on the season.

Davenport falls from the top of the conference standings and stands two games behind both CU and Madonna. The Panthers will host a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday against Hope before heading to Livonia on Saturday for a matchup with the Crusaders of Madonna.
