GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jotham Woo hit three straight singles and scored twice and Michael Allen had a three-RBI day on a bases-clearing single as the Davenport baseball team produced another hitting explosion to beat Olivet 10-1 in the final home game of the regular season Thursday evening. The Panthers improve their season record to 31-12 and will hit the road to Indiana Tech for a four-game series. The series begins Friday at 1 p.m.

Edward Grochowalski Jr. also had a multi-hit evening, going 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI. Leadoff hitter Cam Cooper also had a double as well as touching home plate twice.

Corey Murphy (2-1) surrendered the only run in the third but went on to throw six innings. He punched out four but allowed four five hits and a walk. Ryan Butzer picked up the pace by firing a 1-2-3 outing in the seventh, Corey Anderson and Colton Satterlee each threw an inning the rest of the way, scattering only one hit.

It turned out to be a pitching session for the Comets (15-14). Starter Stephen Botti threw two innings of work before seven relievers were called from the bullpen.

Davenport broke the ice in the first inning when Derek Dennis singled to right, stole second and scored on Grochowalski's two-out base hit to left.

Olivet tied the game in the third using a walk, a single and a sacrifice fly. Although the Panthers bats seemed to have cooled in the second and third, it began to heat up again in the fourth when Woo, Eric Cummings and Carlos Berroa hit three consecutive one-out singles to break the tie. Jordan Schumann would expand the Panthers lead to 3-1 with an RBI single through the right side.

The Panthers ran away with the lead in the sixth inning using stellar at-bats. Woo led off with a single through the right side and after back-to-back flyouts, the right fielder found himself at third on a wild pitch followed by a walk from Andrew Kawam and a hit-by-pitch by Schumann. Woo would score on another wild pitch but the Comets would load the bases again on walks and Allen blew the score wide open with his bases clearing single to left.

Davenport got its 10th run in the eighth when Cooper hit a one-out double and Dylan Yancey sent him home with an RBI single.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport improves to 3-0 all-time against Olivet…After driving in three runs on a single, Michael Allen takes sole possession of second on the all-time RBI list with 107, needing three more to tie Derek Gentile for the record.
