ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Looking to keep the momentum going in their final regular season series, Davenport posted 29 runs on 33 hits in a sweep of Michigan-Dearborn Friday evening in games played at the University of Michigan softball stadium in Ann Arbor. DU cranked out a single game school record 18 hits in game two as they won 15-1 which followed a 14-0 victory in the opener. The Panthers, 30-11-1 on the season and 13-3 in the WHAC, will be in action next week at the conference tournament in Battle Creek.
Davenport wasted little time in each game to make their mark as they scored all 14 runs in the first two innings of the opener and followed with 11 more in the first two frames of the second game to pick up a convincing DH sweep of the Wolves.
Game 1 – W, 14-0 (5)
Amber Getty continued her outstanding season as the junior went 3-4 with two homeruns and three runs. After leading off the game with a double, Getty knocked two shots out of the park in the second becoming the first player in program history to hit a pair of homeruns in the same inning.
She was not alone when it came to the long ball as sophomore
Karli Myers hit her third of the season and first since the trip to Florida in part of the six run first inning in which DU plated five with two outs. Freshman
Carli SanMillan continued her torrid stretch at the plate picking up her first career 4-hit game as she upped her average to .393.
Six other Panthers collected at least one hit and
Alexis Powell went 2-3 with a career high three RBI. On the mound,
Sam Cole improved to 19-6 with the win as the senior went four innings while allowing just two hits and struck out three.
Game 2 – W, 15-1 (5)
Davenport again wasted little time in putting up runs as they went for six in the first, five in the second, three in the third and tacked on one more in the fifth. Getty got the school record 18-hits in a single game started with a line shot double to open the game and
Karli Myers went deep in the opening frame for the second straight game to give DU starter
Kyleigh Linebaugh more the enough runs of support.
KC Dunne posted a 4-4 game while every DU starter had at least one hit.
Debra Burton went 2-3 with a run scored,
Kelly DuCharme 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored,
Ashleigh Blovsky 2-2 with two RBI and two runs,
Alexis Powell 2-2 with three RBI and one run,
Paige Sant'Angelo 1-3 with two runs and one RBI and
Lindsey Allen 1-2.
Linebaugh went four innings while allowing zero runs on three hits and striking out two to improve to 10-5 on the season. Freshman
Alyssa Nelson, who also appeared in game one, pitched the final inning allowing one run on two hits.
Davenport will now have the weekend off and let the other eight teams in the conference finish their league contests. DU is one game behind Cornerstone as the Golden Eagles have a DH against Indiana Tech to play. The Panthers will be in action next on Wednesday, May 1 at the 2013 WHAC Tournament played at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.
