GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After winning seven of its eight games played last week, the Davenport baseball team will have somewhat of a quiet week coming up as it will play four games. The Panthers will resume their rivalry with Aquinas Tuesday in a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. before stepping out of conference play and welcome Saint Xavier (Ill.) for two 7-inning games Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. Both games can be heard live on the Davenport Athletics Network with Gene Halbert on the call.

After splitting with Madonna last Tuesday, the Panthers returned to the Farmers Athletic Complex and dominated a doubleheader with Rochester before sweeping a four-game set with Concordia last weekend. Jotham Woo and Michael Allen had a very impressive performance against Concordia last weekend. In four games, the two seniors combined for 15 hits, six doubles, a triple and drawing 21 walks while driving in 19 of the 39 runs scored in the series. Both Woo and Allen have started all 31 games in the three-four slots, respectively, and together they are hitting .368 with 19 doubles, three triples and a pair of homers while driving in 36 runs.

Davenport (21-10, 8-4 WHAC) and Aquinas (18-6, 9-2 WHAC) will meet for the second time in nearly two weeks. In the first game held at the Farmers Athletic Complex on March 27, Aquinas stole the spotlight by winning the first game 6-1 but Davenport answered back and took the evening cap 10-4.

The Saints picked up a doubleheader victory at Rochester last Saturday, winning game one 10-8 and shutting out the second contest 11-0. Kyle Orlowski is hitting .415 to lead the ballclub but Nick Kissane has been the run producer for the Saints, driving in 15 RBI. Not far behind him in the RBI department are Josh Drake (12), Taylor Pawlanta (11) and Austin King (10). Much like Davenport, Aquinas has not been a team that swings for the fence as it has combined for three home runs on the year.

Junior right fielder Chris Klein combined for seven hits last Saturday as he and his Saint Xavier (14-10) teammates split a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Trinity Christian College. Klein is leading the team with a .385 batting average but Jim Augle has been the go to guy for runs, producing a team-best 20 RBI along with stretching six doubles and three triples. Before they come to Grand Rapids Sunday, the Cougars will seven games, one against Judson University and Lewis University; two at Robert Morris University and three against Holy Cross College.
