Recap of Lindsey Wilson Game
COLUMBIA, Ky. – Davenport suffered an opening game loss to No. 12 ranked and host Lindsey Wilson on Monday but they will have to rebound quickly as they now face Grand View University in an elimination game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. CST. The Vikings, out of the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC), suffered a 5-2 setback to No. 7 Auburn Montgomery on Monday afternoon. The winner will advance to the loser's bracket final to be played at 7 p.m. CST on Tuesday evening.
Opening Game Loss to No. 12 Lindsey Wilson- Davenport fell 6-2 on Monday afternoon to the host school Lindsey Wilson. The Panthers were tied 1-1 in the fifth with two outs but a costly error led to four unearned runs as Davenport fell into the loser's bracket.
Ashleigh Blovsky was a bright spot for DU as the sophomore finished 3-3 with a homerun and a pair of RBI.
A Quick Look at Grand View (Iowa) – Grand View, a member of the Miwest Collegiate Conference (MCC), won the tournament championship and is making its second ever appearance at the NAIA National Tournament and first since 2006. Grand View won three straight at the MCC Tournament to earn the league's automatic bid to nationals. Jessica Grochala is the leading hitter at .368 with six home runs and 39 RBI, while Anna Arnold has 14 home runs with a .364 average. On the mound, Haleigh Munson is the leading arm with a 10-7 record and 3.77 ERA with 115 strikeouts.
How Grand View got here – The Vikings are in the loser's bracket after suffering a 5-2 setback to No. 7 Auburn Montgomery on Monday afternoon. AUM posted a pair of runs in the third inning and then the Vikings got within one on a 2-run shot in the fifth. The Warhawks added to their lead with two more in the sixth and then shutdown a threat in the 7
th from the Vikings to post the win.
Second Ever Appearance at Nationals - Davenport is making its second ever appearance at the national tournament as they made it two seasons ago in 2011. That year, all teams making the tourney advanced to the final site where it was held in Gulf Shores, Ala. DU struggled to three straight losses as they fell to Shorter, Central Baptist and Notre Dame (Ohio) while scoring only three runs in the three setbacks.
Blovsky on a Tear –
Ashleigh Blovsky has been on a tear since the start of the postseason as the sophomore is batting 11-21 with one homerun, two runs scored and a pair of RBI. The lefty has raised her batting average to .345 on the season which is now fourth best on the team
Strikeout Record for Sam Cole – In the second inning of Monday's 6-2 loss to Lindsey Wilson, senior pitcher
Sam Cole became the school's leader for strikeouts in a single season as she recorded No. 163 to pass
Karlee Despres' mark set in the 2012 season.
