LIVONIA, Mich. – The last time the Davenport Volleyball team was in Livonia, it was celebrating earning a trip to the NAIA National Tournament and they returned their on Friday for a pair of matches in the Julie Martin Memorial Tournament. The Panthers got off to a great start by sweeping Rochester (25-16, 25-21, 25-14) but they ended the night by falling to Westminster (Utah) in five sets. DU will take a 6-5 overall record into Saturday's play where they meet Illinois Tech and Roosevelt (Ill.).

The opening match of the weekend saw Davenport take control early and never let up against a Rochester team that came in with an overall record of 10-5. DU wasted little time in each set and was able to get the entire roster some action including freshman setter Ally Ruhlman posting a career high 11 assists.

Offensively, the Panthers hit for a season high .313 led by 10 and nine kills from sophomores Marcey DeHaan and Molly Lameyer. Five different players ended with at least four terminations and the Panther defense limited the Warriors to a .095 hitting percentage and forced them into 17 attack errors.

The second match saw the Panthers go to a fifth set for the fifth time this season and unfortunately were unable to hold off the Griffins from Westminster (Utah). DU took the opening pair of sets by the same score of 25-20 but then fell 25-21, 25-17 and 17-15 to fall to 3-2 this season in 5-set matches. WC even rallied from down a match point at 14-13 to win the final three points and escape with the upset victory.

The DU offense that was so good in the opener on Friday, struggled a little bit in the nightcap as they had 32 hitting errors despite having four players in double-figure kills. DeHaan once again led that charge with 15 while Hannah Stone had 12 and was follow 11 from Lameyer and 10 from Olivia DenHartigh. Amber Getty posted 51 assists while Sidney Rodriguez had 17 digs.

DU will look to rebound on Saturday when they open play against Illinois Tech at 9:30 a.m. and then conclude the tourney at 1:30 p.m.

Post-Match Notes
Davenport is now 3-2 this season in matches that go to a fifth set…The Panthers are making their fifth appearance at the Julie Martin Memorial Tournament in their brief eight year program history and are now 7-15 in those matches…DU dropped the inaugural match with Westminster while they improve to 6-1 vs. Rochester
