GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers defeated Bowling Green State University in their first home game of 2014. Bryon Guerin gave DU an early lead which they held going into the second. Period two is where the D3 team came out fierce and it showed in every aspect on the ice. A near perfect game was the best way they could have returned home and Green looks to do it again tomorrow when they return to Patterson for game two starting at 3:20 p.m.

The first period was full of constant pressure being brought on by both teams. The Panthers took control after an excellent play that started with a series of passes between Jordan Stegger and Daniel Swink, which lead the puck to a very ready Bryon Guerin who slipped it right past the Falcons goalie. The Panthers took this lead into the second period.

DU added on to their lead quickly into the second period with a goal one minute and forty-five seconds into the period with a classic Otto to Sund play that gave the Panthers a little room to breathe in this game. Damerow captured a goal twelve minutes in following a gorgeous pass from Guerin. Moments later Stegger made his mark with Davenport's fourth goal with no response from Bowling Green. Zack Bodziak scored his first goal after a pass from non-other than Geurin, putting DU up by five with four minutes left in period two. The Falcons finally responded with just a minute left in the second, barely slipping one past John Cruse.

The Panthers kept the shots up in the beginning of the third and the pressure could only bring good things for them. Madaj took a good opportunity in front and turned it into a great goal and a 6-1 lead for the Panthers with twelve minutes remaining in the game. DU didn't slow down even a little bit as the game continued; Jake Otto put another goal on the bored and there was still eight minutes left. The Panthers finished an already great game very well with a final score of 7-1.

These two teams meet again tomorrow at Patterson Ice Center for an afternoon game to finish the weekend series starting at 3:20 p.m.
