GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers had another fantastic game today with a big win against Bowling Green State University. DU added three power-play goals to their season statistics and every player that touched the ice brought something to the table for Davenport.
John Cruse was near perfect in the net and gave his team the backbone they needed to continue their success this weekend and finish the series strong.
The first period was about as intense as they come in game two.
Jake Otto was a huge part of the success DU found by scoring the first two goals for the Panthers. His first came just less than four minutes into period one and it gave DU some motivation to take it home this afternoon. Bowling Green was able to sneak a goal in around the ten minute mark but Otto responded less than two minutes later after a pass from Brandon Burton who also assisted his first goal.
Jake Hambidge ended the period on an excellent note, giving DU the 3-1 lead that would carry these two teams into the second.
Both teams came out ready to play in the second and that resulted in neither team being able to find the back of the net in the first half of period two. One thing that carried over into the second was the hungry attitude that Davenport had; the offense just kept pouring shot after shot onto Falcon goalie Jacob Butler. Panther captain Garret Garber gave DU its 4
th goal of the game during a power-play opportunity which was Garber's first goal of the season 11 minutes into the period.
Daniel Swink made his first big play of the game, posting another power-play goal and giving his team the 5-1 lead. DJ Hume added another goal for DU late in the third to give them even more room to breathe.
The Panthers played the third period just as they did the last two periods and all three periods yesterday, with intense aggressive play from every party playing under
Chris Green. The Falcons were able to hold DU until the fourteen minute mark but Swink put that to rest with another power-play goal giving them the 7-1 lead.
Spencer Bajko left his mark on Falcons with a goal at the 14 minute mark. Bowling Green responded with three minutes remaining to give them their second goal of the game.
