HOLLAND, Mich. – The Panthers headed into period three with a single goal lead that was given to them by
Bryon Guerin in the first period. Hope put the pressure on DU by tying it up early in the third but D3 responded with three consecutive goals that gave them the 4-1 win over Hope in game two. DU returns to Patterson Ice Center for a Wednesday night game against Adrian College- Gold starting at 8:20 p.m.
The Panthers and the Flying Dutchmen battled for control throughout the first half of period one, until
Bryon Guerin caught a pass from
Zachary Bodziak and gave DU the 1-0 lead with just over eight minutes remaining that would carry into the second period.
Davenport had Hopes goalie standing on his head by the end of the second but the score remained 1-0.
John Cruse kept his team ahead with some miraculous goaltending.
Hope was able to tie it up five minutes into period three which put a heavy amount of pressure on D3. Steger responded to the goal nine minutes into the third after a passing play with
Willis Gelow and
Bryon Guerin.
Donald Sund added to their lead one minute later with a big goal that gave them some breathing room. The Panthers were able to finish the game with one more goal seventeen minutes into the Period that put the Flying Dutchmen out of reach.
The Panthers only get a few days of rest before they play Adrian College-Gold on Wednesday at Patterson starting at 8:20 p.m. Following that the Panthers will play one last weekend series against Calvin College that will finish regular season play for the D3 hockey team.
