AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Davenport baseball team got its 12-game spring break tour in central Florida underway Sunday with a pair of victories over baseball newbie Grace (Neb.). The Panthers bats sparked 10 hits including a double and a home run to take game one 9-2 while in game two belonged to right-hander Corey Sessions as he tossed a complete-game, two-hit gem to shutout the Royals 3-0. DU will head to Lake Wales to play Warner Monday at 3 p.m.

Game 1 – Davenport 9, Grace 2
Davenport managed to score three runs in the second inning without recording a hit. Derek Dennis was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and snuck his way to second. After Cody Greear drew a walk, he and Dennis moved into scoring position thanks to a wild pitch and scored the first run. The Panthers got two more runs across on two sacrifice plays, Connor Seymour laying down a bunt but reaching safely on an error and Zac Wilson hitting a fly ball deep enough to bring the third run in.

The Panthers were held hitless until the fourth inning, when Greear led off with a single to center.

Leading 5-1 after five, the Panthers put the game out of the Royals reach with a three-run sixth, highlighted by a two-run shot by Brenden Bender for the first Panther home run of the season.

Ferris continued to be dominant on the mound, and this time he was rewarded with a win for it. The senior allowed one earned run on four hits and strikeouts each before handing the ball to Ryan Butzer with one out in the sixth.

Game 2 – Davenport 3, Grace 0
It was all Corey Sessions (2-0) in the nightcap of the doubleheader. The sophomore went from start to finish scattering a pair of singles and surrendering a walk while punching out five batters.

Davenport all the runs it needed in the fourth. Starter Everado Tovar (0-1) quickly loaded the bases by walking Bender and Nolan Wilson and hitting Corbin Clouse. Dennis got the first run in with a sacrifice fly to right and Jordan Schumann followed with an RBI double down the left field line.

The Panthers got their third run in the fifth. Seymour led off with a walk and moved into scoring position by stealing second. After a groundout moved Seymour to third, Nolan Wilson brought him home with a double down the left field line.
