CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport baseball (20-21) secured a commanding 13-6 victory over Northwood (14-21) on Tuesday at The Farm in non-conference Midwest Region action. This victory marked the seventh straight win for Davenport against Northwood. Davenport tallied 16 hits, including six doubles—surpassing their season average of 2.2—and a home run, and exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to break the game open. The Timberwolves responded with three runs in the seventh but could not overcome the deficit.
Davenport opened the scoring in the first inning when
Sam Clay singled and
Carson Lindau followed with an RBI triple (first of the season).
Justin Johnson's sacrifice fly brought Lindau home, giving Davenport a 2-0 lead after one inning.
In the second inning,
Travis Liford homered to left field for his third of the season, extending Davenport's advantage to 3-2 after the Timberwolves scored twice in the top half.
Davenport added three more runs in the third inning.
Dylan Pawenski's double to right center drove in two runs, and Liford contributed with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 6-3.
The fifth inning saw Davenport's offense open up the game with six runs.
Wyatt Epple's RBI single was followed by a bases-clearing double from Clay. Subsequent RBI doubles from Johnson and Pawenski capped the inning, bringing the score to 12-3. This impressive offensive display helped Davenport score 13 runs in total, exceeding their season average of 8.48 runs per game.
Davenport added another run in the sixth inning when Epple, who had reached on a single, scored on Lindau's bases-loaded walk, increasing the lead to 13-3.
The Timberwolves responded in the seventh inning with three runs, but Davenport maintained control with a 13-6 lead.
The game concluded with the score remaining unchanged through the eighth and ninth innings.
Jaden Alberson started the game for Davenport, pitching three innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout.
Ian Dixon pitched effectively in relief, also completing three innings, giving up only two hits and earning the win (1-0).
