CLERMONT, Fla. – The 2014 season is officially underway as Davenport picked up a pair of victories over Northwood University (Fla.) on Sunday morning. Emily Maves picked up her first collegiate win in the opener as DU defeated the Seahawks 8-0 and then the Panthers collected a 7-2 victory in the second game. Davenport will play two more on Monday as they open against Lyndon State at 9 a.m. and follow with an 11 a.m. contest against Hanover.

Game 1 – Davenport 8, Northwood 0 (6)

After a pair of scoreless innings, the defending WHAC Tournament champions got the scoring started thanks to three consecutive doubles from Debra Burton, KC Dunne and Ashleigh Blovsky. Davenport continued to add to their total in the fifth with they got two more on the board when Dunne scored on a wild pitch and Lindsay Tasma picked up her first career RBI with a sac fly that scored Maegan Jenkins.

The game would be finished in fine fashion as Dunne connected on a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring Amber Getty and Haley Obetts to finish off the mercy of the Seahawks. Dunne finished the game going 3-3 with four RBI while Haley Obetts was the other DU player to get more than one hit as the freshman went 2-3.

Emily Maves was outstanding on the mound in her collegiate debut as the freshman struck out five of the first six batters she faced and finished with nine on the game while going all six innings, allowing just two hits and only one runner to reach third base.

Game 2 – Davenport 7, Northwood 2

The momentum from game one carried into the second with DU taking an early lead when KC Dunne singled home Amber Getty who led the game off with a single. The runs kept coming in the second when Paige Sant'Angelo and Karli Myers each scored runs to make it 3-0.  Myers then picked up an RBI in the third and DU got another run on a Seahawk error to up their lead to 5-0.

After NU got their first run of the day, DU came back strong in the top of the fifth when junior Paige Sant'Angelo connected on a 2-run homerun, which scored Lindsay Tasma to make the score 7-1 in favor of the Panthers.  NU tacked on one more run off freshman Alyssa Eastman but that would be all of the scoring as DU posted the sweep.

Kyleigh Linebaugh threw four innings to pick up the win on the mound as the sophomore gave up five hits and one un-earned run. Alyssa Eastman finished the game off in the final three innings.

Davenport returns to the NTC Training Complex on Monday when they will take on Lyndon State at 9 a.m. and Hanover College at 11 a.m.
