LAKE WALES, Fla. – Corey Murphy surrendered an unearned run while striking out three batters in seven innings of work and was backed by 14 hits and six stolen bases in the Davenport baseball team's 11-2 victory over Warner Monday afternoon.

The Panthers have won five straight following its opening-day loss earlier in the month and will now head east to Daytona Beach to play No. 3 Embry-Riddle under the lights at 6 p.m. The Panthers stunned the then-seventh-ranked Eagles at their ballpark last year.

In addition to his brilliant outing, Murphy (1-0) scattered three hits and did not allow any free passes. A passed ball in the fifth inning was the only run the sophomore allowed in the game.

Jordan Zylstra had three singles, with one driving in a pair of runs, to lead the Panthers offense. The senior also stole two bags on the afternoon. Brenden Bender had a perfect day at the plate, reaching a pair of singles and walks while driving in two on sacrifice flies.

Although Warner freshman starter Joe Lopez got off to a rocky start by walking the bases loaded from the first pitch, he escaped the threat with a strikeout and back-to-back pop outs.

Leadoff hitter Connor Seymour got the third inning started with a single through the left side and found his way to third with a ground out and a passed ball. EJ Grochowalski found a hole on the left side to drive in the first run of the game.

Davenport did all the damage it needed in the fifth, but it got a little help from the Royals (8-8) bullpen. Bender and Nolan Wilson drew a walk and Grochowalski was hit by the pitch to load the bases with one out. Although Corbin Clouse's grounder forced out Wilson at second, it did enough to bring Bender home from third. Following Cody Greear's walk to reload the bases, Zylstra hit a two-run single to left to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.

Jonathan Cheshire took over for Murphy in the eighth and went the rest of the way allowing one run on two hits while striking out four.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport improves to 2-3 all-time against Warner…EJ Grochowalski and Zac Wilson both extend their hit streaks to five games…The Panthers have put 14 hits on the board three times this season and has reached double figures in all but one game this season…The combined five stolen bases is the second most on the young year
