CLERMONT, Fla. – Davenport got two more wins on Tuesday during their spring break trip to Florida as they defeated Capital University (Ohio) 5-4 and then posted an impressive 3-1 win over University of Tampa. The Spartans came into the game ranked No. 7 in the latest NFCA DII coaches poll. The pair of wins lifts the Panthers to 6-0 on the season as they will return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against Saint Thomas (Fla.) at 11 a.m.

Game 1 – Davenport 5, Capital (Ohio) 4

Davenport overcame their first errors of the season to down Capital University 5-3 in the opening game of day three. The Panthers saw their bats quieted a little bit by the pitching duo of the Crusaders but they were able to get three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to pick up their fifth straight win.

Debra Burton got it started in the third with a lead-off walk and she was followed by two consecutive doubles by KC Dunne and Ashleigh Blovsky with Blovsky picking up a pair of RBI to plate the first runs of the game. Carli SanMillan then finished the scoring as she brought Kaie Creighton home who was pinch running.

Three errors in the top of the fifth allowed the Crusaders to bring home three runs to tie the score at 3-3 but the Panthers got two of those back in their half of the inning when Amber Getty and KC Dunne each picked up an RBI scoring Karli Myers and Getty.

Kyleigh Linebaugh picked up her second win of the season on the mound as the sophomore went the distance finishing with just two earned runs charged against her while picking up four strikeouts.

Game 2 – Davenport 3, #7 Tampa 1

In what might be their toughest matchup of the season, the team posted an impressive 3-1 win over NCAA DII No. 7 ranked University of Tampa to finish off their third straight perfect day at the NTC Training Complex. Emily Maves was once again brilliant on the mound as the freshman finished with a complete game while striking out two and giving up one hit one un-earned run.

Davenport opened the scoring in the third when Debra Burton hit a sac fly that scored Karli Myers. After the Spartans got on the board on a DU error in the fourth, the Panthers came roaring back in the sixth as Ashleigh Blovsky hit an RBI triple that scored pinch runner Kelly DuCharme and she was then brought in by Karli Myers who doubled to deep left.

Maves finished off the Spartans in the sixth and seventh to improve to 3-0 on the young season.

Davenport returns to the NTC Training Complex on Thursday when they will take Saint Thomas (Fla.) in a double header beginning at 11 a/.m.

Post-Game Notes
The 6-0 start matches the best in school history as DU also won their first six games during the 2010 campaign…Emily Maves still has not allowed an earned run through three starts and has 31 strikeouts in only 17 innings…The triple by Ashleigh Blovsky was the second of her career
