BABSON PARK, Fla. – Davenport finished their tour of the Sun Conference opponents on Thursday night as they fell by a 3-2 score to Webber International University. The loss drops the Panthers' record to 6-4 on the season as Davenport will finish their weekend with two games tomorrow and Saturday and then a single game on Sunday. DU will face Haninal La Grange and Ashland on Friday.

The Panthers played their final game against a Sun Conference opponent tonight and tried for some late heroics but were unable to muster up a rally for the second straight game as they fell to the Webber International Warriors 3-2.

In what turned out to be a pitcher's duel for the first five innings, DU starter Jordan Anderson was outstanding while only allowing one batter to reach base and then saw his offense back him up with a run in the top of the sixth. Cam Cooper got the first run of the game as the junior came home after a wild pitch and error by the catcher to put the Panthers up 1-0.

That lead only held up until the bottom half of the inning when the Warriors scored their first run by using some small ball and advancing runners on bunts and stolen bases to tie the game at 1-1. That inning would be the final one for Anderson as he ended his night going six innings while giving up just three hits and one earned run. The senior struck out four batters while not issuing a single walk.

After leaving two runners on in the top of the seventh, the Panthers were then unable to hold the game scoreless as the Warriors brought home a pair to take a 3-1 lead.

Davenport then loaded the bases in the top of the eighth but like many times before, had trouble getting runs in but they did manage one as Cam Cooper flew out to the second baseman and it brought across Hank Van Ooyen to bring the Panthers within one. That would be the final tally for DU though as they went 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth.

Davenport will have a pair of neutral site games on Friday as they get back into the Russ Matt Tournament as they will play Hanibal LaGrange at 1 p.m. and Ashland University at 5 p.m. Both games will be live on the Davenport Athletics Network.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport finishes their tour of the Sun Conference with a record of 2-3 record with wins over Warner University, Southeastern University and losses to Webber International, Embry Riddle and Southeastern…The appearance (6.0 innings) is the longest Jordan Anderson has gone since his junior year in 2012…
