CLERMONT, Fla. – The Davenport offense in game one was much of what they have seen so far this season in a 9-4 win over St. Thomas but it cooled off considerably in the nightcap as DU fell 2-1 to the Bobcats to split the doubleheader. The Panthers, now 7-1 on the season, will have three games on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. against Lyndon State. DU also faces Alma at 1 p.m. and Bellevue at 3 p.m.

Game 1 – Davenport 9, St. Thomas 4

For the first time this season, freshman Emily Maves allowed an earned run but her offense have her more than enough support as DU posted the 5-run win over the Bobcats. DU struck in three different innings as they scored three runs in the first, third and fourth innings.

After Amber Getty opened the scoring by scoring on a wild pitch in the first, Ashleigh Blovsky posted one of her two hits on the day, this one a deep shot to right center to score both Karli Myers and Carli SanMillan on the double. The Panthers struck again in the third on a 2-RBI double from Lindsay Tasma and then Blovsky picked up her third RBI of the game scoring Tasma.

After the Bobcats got three runs in their half of the third, Davenport got all of those back in the top of the fourth with two of them coming on a 2-run blast to deep center field from KC Dunne. It marked the third homerun in seven games for the junior.

With the six run lead, Maves did allow a fourth run for the Bobcats but she and reliever Kyleigh Linebaugh got the Panthers through to their seventh win in as many tries. Maves improves to 4-0 on the season.

Game 2 – St. Thomas 2, Davenport 1

For the first time this season, Davenport found themselves trailing as the Bobcats jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first on starting pitcher Alyssa Eastman. That lead would only hold until the third when Haley Obetts singled home Eastman who led off the inning with a single and was moved over on a sac bunt by Sarah Schneidenbach.

It then became a pitcher's duel as Eastman and a combination of two STU hurlers held the offense's in check all the way until the top of the seventh when STU scored on a DU error to take the 2-1 lead. Trying to come up with a rally and keep their perfect start in-tact, the Panthers put runners on first and second with nobody out in the bottom half of the inning but a failed sacrifice and double play ended the game.

Eastman finished the game for DU as the freshman gave up eight hits, two runs (one earned) while striking out a career high six batters.

Davenport will have a busy day on Friday as they will play three games starting at 9 a.m. when they take on Lyndon State (Vt.). The Panthers then follow with games at 1 p.m. vs. Alma College and 3 p.m. vs. No. 22 Bellevue (Neb.).

Post-Game Notes

The 7-0 start was the best in school history as it is one more win than the team reached in 2010…KC Dunne now has three homeruns on the year which is ¾ of what the team has…The three hits are the fewest that the DU offense has so far this season as their previous low was six
