D3 to Play Hope in The ACHA National Tournament Semifinal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport D3 hockey team advanced to the semifinal round of the ACHA National tournament after winning Pool B that featured a 5-2 win over top-ranked California (Pa.). They will be matched up against hometown rival Hope College on Friday at 3 p.m. A win would send the Panthers into the national championship game for the second time in the last three years against either Robert Morris or Adrian-Gold.

Scouting Hope
Hope has developed a record of 22-4-0-2-1 throughout the 2013-14 season. At the National tournament Hope as captured wins against Colorado State University and Florida Gulf Coast University but fell short to the University of Pittsburgh- Jonestown today with a close 3-2 finish.
 
Robert Calvert and Justin Glick tie in total points during the National Tournament with four a piece. Glick also leads Hope in points for the regular season with 37 total. Goaltender Andrew Cook has totaled 484 saves during the season and has a GAA of 2.01.
 
Scouting Davenport
The Panthers have posted a record of 31-6 thus far this season. DU won the MCHC Division Championship against Oakland in ealry March first which gave them the number two seed in the North. Earlier today the Panthers won their third game of the ACHA National Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Cal Penn where Jordan Steger broke a third period tie to give the Panthers the edge and momentum they needed to take home the big win and move on to the semi-final round.
 
Donald Sund leads the Panthers in overall assists with 30 during the regular season, and overall points with 52. Sunds line mate Jake Otto captured 23 goals during the regular season for Davenport and has been an offensive leader all season. John Cruse will be in net for DU and has already posted a GAA of 2.18 and saved 539 pucks from finding the back of the net during regular season play.
 
Earlier this season the Panthers were able to complete back-to-back wins against Hope and have not lost a game since falling to UM-Flint back on January 10.
