PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. – The top four batters in the Davenport lineup accounts for seven hits and 12 runs as they led the Panthers to a 14-3 romp of host Shawnee State on Sunday. Game two was cancelled due to cold temperatures as DU will return to Michigan with a 13-3 overall record. Head coach McCall Salmon and her team will get back into action on Friday, March 21 when they face Grand View (Iowa) in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.

Davenport was scheduled to play a pair of games on Sunday at Shawnee State but the weather limited them to just a single 7-inning contest in which the Panther offense racked up 14 runs on 15 hits.

After falling behind 2-0 after the first and 3-1 after the second, the Davenport defense held the host Bears off the board for the remainder of the game. Trailing 2-3 heading into the fourth inning, the DU bats exploded, posting four runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Senior Amber Getty got the scoring started in the fourth on an RBI single that scored Lindsay Tasma and she was then brought in by Karli Myers. Also picking up a 2-RBI single in the inning was Ashleigh Blovsky which was part of her game high three runs batted in.

Freshman Alyssa Eastman added to the lead in the sixth with an RBI double and she was then brought in by fellow newcomer Tasma on a single to left field.

DU tacked on four more runs in the seventh and then Maves shutdown the Bears 1-2-3 to give the Panthers the win.

Davenport will head to Oskaloosa, Iowa next weekend where they will play five games over three days starting on Friday as they have a doubleheader scheduled against GrandView. Then on Saturday and Sunday, they will play in the William Penn Tournament (Iowa). DU will face Bellevue, Morningside and the host Statesmen.

Post-Game Notes
It marks the first time in program history that four different players accounted for at least three runs scored…The 1-3 start is the best through its first 16 games for the softball team…Despite walking a season high six batters, Emily Maves struck out eight and picked up her seventh win
