DES MOINES, Iowa – On the opening day of a busy weekend, the Davenport Softball team was doomed by the long ball in the opener at Grand View but then connected on three of their own in game two to come away with a split against the Vikings. Karli Myers, Ashleigh Blovsky and Paige Sant'Angelo all went deep in the 9-5 win to get the split as DU will take a 14-4 record into the William Penn tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Game 1 – Grand View 8, Davenport 0 (6)

Davenport struggled to get going on offense as the host Vikings connected on a pair of homeruns to post a mercy win in their home opener. DU managed only a double by KC Dunne for their only offense but they were shutout for the second time in their last four games.

Emily Maves suffered the loss in the circle for the Panthers as the freshman went four innings while giving up five runs and striking out six. Emily is now 7-2 on the season

Game 2 – Davenport 9, Grand View 5

Looking to post a split in the nightcap, Davenport fell behind by a 3-0 score after the first inning but got a big boost on offense to start the second as Ashleigh Blovsky led off with a homerun and then the Panthers added to it on an unearned run to cut the margin to 3-2.

The Vikings got one of those back in the bottom half of the inning but the Panthers took the lead for good in the fourth when Karli Myers homered and Alyssa Eastman picked up an RBI single to help her own cause in the circle.

The homerun barrage was finished by DU in the fifth inning when junior Paige Sant'Angelo sent one over the left field wall scoring Eastman on the play and the Panther defense held strong down the stretch to pick up the 9-5 win.

Alyssa Eastman improved to 5-1 as the winning pitcher as the freshman finished by giving up just one earned run while striking out six.

Davenport will now head to the William Penn Tournament in Oskaloosa, Iowa where they will face Bellevue and Morningside on Saturday and Cardinal Stritch and the host Statesman on Sunday.
