GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The offense that the Davenport Softball team showed yesterday in the conference and home opener continued to show itself today as the No. 25 ranked Panthers put up 20 more to take a pair of league contests against Lourdes University 8-0 (5) and 12-6. Game 1 – Davenport 8, Lourdes 0 (5)Emily Maves continued her outstanding start to her career as the freshman posted a season high 11 strikeouts while giving up only one hit in route to her ninth win of the season. Maves had plenty of support from her teammates as they put up four in the second and followed with one in the fourth and three in the fifth to complete the mercy rule win.
Amber Getty got the scoring started as she picked up a bases clearing double in the second inning to score
Carli SanMillan,
Debra Burton and
Alyssa Eastman and then she was brought home on an RBI single from
Karli Myers.
The Panthers added a single run in the fourth and then finished it with three in the fifth on an RBI groundout from SanMillan and another double from Getty that scored two more to give the senior five RBI on the day.
Game 2 – Davenport 12, Lourdes 6 The second game saw the Panthers encounter their first adversity of the weekend after they took a 6-1 leading heading into the fourth inning as the Gray Wolves plated five runs including a homerun to tie the game at 6-6. After each team went down quietly in the fifth, the Panthers rallied to bring across six of their own in the bottom of the sixth for the final score of 12-6.
Haley Obetts and
Amber Getty led off the frame with walks and then they were both brought home on a 2-RBI double from
Karli Myers to break the tie. The runs kept coming for DU as a pair of wild pitches scored both Myers and
KC Dunne and then the inning was finished with an RBI single from
Debra Burton and RBI groundout from
Carli SanMillan.
