Next DU event: Sunday, April 13 vs. Siena Heights (1 p.m. – DH)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport posted a pair of mercy run victories over their cross-town rivals from Aquinas on Saturday and they did it in dramatic fashion as Emily Maves hurled a no-hitter in the opener and KC Dunne finished off the second with a walk-off 2-run homerun. The two wins lift Davenport to 24-6 overall and 9-1 in conference play as they will welcome in Siena Heights for another league doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Game 1 – Davenport 11, Aquinas 0 (5)

If it was not for the incredible performance by Emily Maves on the mound that saw the freshman toss her second career no-hitter, the game would most likely have been all about the bats as DU put up 14 hits and tallied 11 runs in just four frames to defeat the Saints.

DU did not connect for one homerun during the contest but posted three doubles and a pair of stolen bases to take the opener. The Panthers put up four runs in the first and then tacked on seven more in the fourth to finish with a mercy run win. Amber Getty led the hit parade going 4-4 with a pair of runs scored while KC Dunne and Paige Sant'Angelo each added two hits.Every starter for head coach McCall Salmon finished with at least one hit during the game.

In the circle, Emily Maves went all five innings while allowing just three base-runners via walks but the freshman struck out eight while not allowing a single hit for the second no-hitter of the season and career.

Game 2 – Davenport 9, Aquinas 1 (6)

Despite a 46-minute rain delay, the two Grand Rapids based schools managed to get both games in with DU posting its second straight mercy run victory. Aquinas was able to put a run on the board in the top of the first as they managed to bring home an un-earned run but that would be all they would get as Alyssa Eastman shut them down for the remainder of the game.

The DU offense was not as hot as it was in the opener but they still managed nine runs on nine hits and scored in four of their six at-bats. Eastman helped her own cause in the bottom of the first with a 2-RBI double and then Karli Myers connected on her team-leading fifth homerun of the season in a 3-run second to put the Panthers up 5-1.

DU tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to set up a dramatic ending in the sixth when KC Dunne homered to left center to post the mercy run win.

Eastman improves to 10-2 in the circle with the win as the freshman went five innings while striking out five and allowing just three hits.

Davenport will be back at the Farmers Athletic Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Siena Heights University.
