GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jordan Schumann had two hits and an RBI, and five pitchers were used on a cold Tuesday evening at the Farmers Athletic Complex as the Davenport baseball team overcame six defensive mistakes to take a 6-2 non-conference win over NCAA Division III member Olivet. The Panthers, who have now won eight straight, finishes the regular season schedule on the road and in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play starting Wednesday with crosstown rival Aquinas at 2 p.m.
 
Eric Cummings had a base hit and scored twice hitting in the leadoff spot for the Panthers (34-14). Zac Wilson, Ryan Manning and Cam Cooper each tallied a hit to round out the six Davenport hits on the evening.
 
After two defensive mistakes in the infield allowed the Comets (7-23) to strike first with an unearned run in the opening inning, Davenport quickly took a 3-1 lead without the use of a base hit to drive them in. Eric Cummings drew a walk to lead off the inning and advanced to third on Zac Wilson's single through the right side. Comet stater Stephen Botti loaded the bases hitting Ryan Manning on the first pitch. A wild pitch allowed Cummings to scoring the tying run on a wild pitch and sacrifice flies by Cam Cooper and Nolan Wilson brought in two runs.
 
Davenport cashed in two more runs in the fourth when suicide sqeeze play by Tyler Baratono scored Jordan Schumann and a Comet error allowed courtesy runner Nick Somerville to score from second.
 
The Panthers got their sixth run across in the seventh. Cummings led off with a single, moved to second on Jordan Zylstra's walk and scored on Jordan Schumann's single through the right side.
 
Cole Wright threw three innings allowing an unearned run in the first on a hit and a walk. Skylar Hoke (1-0) also tossed three innings, allowing a run on four hits for his first win on the year. Jonathan Cheshire allowed one hit on six pitches in the seventh, Alex Schuiling scattered a hit and a walk in the seventh and Ryan Butzer recorded eight pitches in the ninth to shut the door.

Davenport improves to 4-0 all-time against Olivet…The Panthers six errors committed is the most since they recorded five at Cornerstone a month ago…Eric Cummings batted in the leadoff spot for the first time since April 9 at Trine, ending a run of 10 games Cody Greear started in that spot…Davenport finishes their schedule at the Farmers Athletic Complex 23-4, having played the most games at home in the WHAC
