ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After tossing a shutout in his previous start last weekend, Corey Murphy continued to add more zeroes on the mound as the sophomore threw another complete-game performance in the Davenport baseball team's 9-0 win at Concordia Friday evening. Due to weather conditions, both coaches agreed to only play a one, 9-inning game but are scheduled to play the traditional Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.

Murphy, who improved to 7-2 on the year, struck out five while allowing two singles and a walk.

The offense meanwhile appeared to have returned to form by putting 12 hits on the board to match the same number they combined in their doubleheader split with Aquinas Wednesday. Cody Greear homered for his only hit on the day in the third and Jordan Zylstra hit a three-run double in the seventh for Panthers who have hit for exra bases. The 3-4 combo of Brendan Bender and EJ Grochowalski each recorded three singles to lead the Panthers (36-15, 22-6 WHAC).

The eventual winning run came in the first inning with help from a Concordia error. Bender reached on base on an error in left field with two out and Grochowalski punished the Cardinals (17-27, 11-11 WHAC) with an RBI single.

After Greear belted his first home run of the season in the third, Davenport took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when Zylstra hit a leadoff single and scored on Zack Sardellitti's sacrifice fly.

DU put the game out of reach in the seventh. Zac Wilson drew a walk to start the inning and advanced to third on Bender's single. Grochowalski knocked in the freshman with a base hit and Ryan Manning was awarded first base to setup Zylstra's bases clearing double.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport improves to 14-7 all-time against Concordia…Corey Murphy has not allowed a run since the sixth inning at Northwestern Ohio April 13, expanding to 17 consecutive innings…With his seventh win, Murphy ties the single season record set by Brandon Romero in 2010 and teammate Jordan Anderson in 2012
