GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 23 ranked Davenport Softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Concordia University on Saturday to claim their third Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship in the last four years. DU won the opener 9-4 before claiming the nightcap 5-4. The pair of wins lifts Davenport to 31-7 on the season while they finish the league slate at 16-2. The Panthers will be in action next Wednesday in the opening round of the conference tournament at 6 pm.

Game 1 – Davenport 9, Concordia 4

Needing only one win to claim at least a share of the conference crown, the team put up five runs in the third inning and followed with one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to take the 9-4 win. Emily Maves hurled a complete game to improve to 15-3 on the season while the freshman finished with 10 strikeouts.

The extra base hit got the scoring started as Haley Obetts doubled to score Carli SanMillan and then she was brought home on a double from KC Dunne.  The very next batter, Ashleigh Blovsky hit her first of two homers in the game to extend the lead to 5-0.

Karli Myers then opened the fifth with her team-leading seventh homerun and Haley Obetts added to her RBI total with two more in the sixth scoring Katie Creighton and Bri Elliot. Blovsky's solo shot in the seventh ended the scoring as DU walked away with a 5-run win.

Game 2 – Davenport 5, Concordia 4

Davenport claimed their second ever outright title with a 1-run victory in the nightcap as freshman Alyssa Eastman got the win in the circle improving to 14-2 on the season. Eastman struck out five batters while allowing only five hits and a walk as Emily Maves came in relief to pick up the team's first save of the season.

Six different Panthers finished with at least two hits during the game as they struck with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first and then added to the lead in the fourth with an RBI triple from Amber Getty and sacrifice fly from Karli Myers. DU continued the scoring in the fifth when Carli SanMillan doubled home Kelly DuCharme.

The Cardinals tried to make it interesting down the stretch as they scored one in the fifth and two more in the sixth but then DU brought in Emily Maves to close it out and the freshman struck out the side to finish the 5-4 win.

Davenport will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming WHAC Tournament in Sylvania, Ohio and they will open play on Wednesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. vs. UM-Dearborn.
