SYLVANIA, Ohio – Davenport University opened the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament with a pair of wins on day one as they advance to the winner's bracket final tomorrow where they will meet Cornerstone at 4:30 p.m. DU defeated UM-Dearborn 8-0 in the opener highlighted by a perfect game from freshman Emily Maves and then held on to defeat Siena Heights 5-3 in the nightcap to go 2-0 on the day. The Panthers are now 33-7 overall on the year.

Game 1 – Davenport 8, UM-Dearborn 0 (5)

The No. 22 ranked softball team opened their defense of the WHAC Tourney title in perfect fashion as freshman Emily Maves threw her first career perfect game in an 8-0 win for the Panthers. Davenport closed out the win in five innings as Maves finished with eight strikeouts on the night.

DU struck in three of their four at-bats which included a one-run first, two-run second and five-run fourth. All but two DU starters recorded hits as Amber Getty and Paige Sant'Angelo each had a pair and an RBI. Also bringing in runs for Davenport were Karli Myers, Debra Burton and Haley Obetts.

Getty extended her all-time triples mark to 13 with a three-bagger in her two-hit day and the Panthers finished with three doubles.

Game 2 – Davenport 5, Siena Heights 3

Davenport wasted little time in putting distance between themselves and the Saints as they brought across three in the top of the first then got a big two-run homerun in the second from Karli Myers to lead 5-0.

But after the Panthers left  some runners on when they had a chance to put even more runs on the board, the Saints slowly started to chip away at the lead and decreased it to 5-2 in the fifth and added a single run in the sixth to get within 5-3.

Emily Maves then came on to finish the sixth and went 1-2-3 in the seventh to pick up her second save of the season. Alyssa Eastman improves to 15-2 with the victory as the freshman finished with six strikeouts.

Davenport now advances to the winner's bracket final where they will meet Cornerstone University, who claimed an 8-0 mercy win over Madonna in their semifinal game. The winner of the DU-CU game will advance to the championship game on Friday at 3 p.m.

Post-Game Notes

Emily Maves now has two no-hitters and one perfect game this season…Maves is now tied for the school record for saves in a single season…The opening game 0-2 mark by KC Dunne ended the junior's career long hitting streak at 16 games which is also tied for the second longest in school history (Heather Brusokas owns the mark with 19)…
