GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jordan Anderson and Corey Sessions both tossed five innings in their starts, and the Davenport baseball team offense backed the pitchers by putting a half of a dozen runs on board in each game to post a 6-1, 6-2 doubleheader sweep over Indiana Tech Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 22-12 overall and 10-3 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference while the Warriors fall to 13-14-1 overall and 5-3 in league play. Both teams will meet in another doubleheader at the Farmers Athletic Complex Sunday at 1 p.m.

Game 1 – Davenport 6, Indiana Tech 0
Anderson struck out four batters while giving up five hits and four walks in his five-inning outing before turning it over to Ryan Butzer (4-0). Butzer, checking into his fourth straight game, scattered a run on three this and a walk.

After both teams scored a run in the second innings, it was all pitching until the sixth. Jordan Zylstra and EJ Grochowalski opened the frame with singles up the middle and a wild pitch moved both of them into scoring position. Zack Sardellitti broke the tie with a sacrifice fly to left field and Connor Seymour hit a RBI single to pitcher Curtis Wise (4-1).

A leadoff double by Zylstra ignited a three-run eighth inning. With one out, the Panthers took advantage of three Warrior errors to score Zylstra and add two more runs to complete the 6-2 score.

Game 2 – Davenport 6, Indiana Tech 1
The Warriors defensive woes carried over to game two a dropped fly in the first inning allowed leadoff hitter Cody Greear to reach safely. Derek Dennis laid down a bunt to move Greear to second and a single to center field by Zac Wilson brought in the first run of the game.

Davenport's bottom three of the order also took advantage of a defensive mistake by Indiana Tech to score three unearned runs in the second.

Despite recording any strikeouts, Sessions (4-0) allowed the run in the fourth inning and surrendered six hits, including a leadoff triple that eventually scored the lone run, and issued two free passes.
