SYLVANIA, Ohio – Davenport posted a pair of wins over rival Cornerstone to come back from the loser's bracket and claim their second straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament Championship. The Panthers defeated the Golden Eagles 4-0 in the opener and then claimed an 8-2 victory in the nightcap to improve to 36-8 on the season. DU will be in action next from May 12-14 when they host the Opening Round of the NAIA Softball National Tournament.

Game 1 – Davenport 4, Cornerstone 0

Davenport evened the season series at 2-2 but more importantly forced a winner-take-all second game as they dominated at the plate and from the circle while picking up a 4-0 win. Emily Maves was dominate for the Panthers as the freshman hurled a complete-game 2-hitter while striking out five to improve her season record to 18-4.

Davenport wasted little time in getting runs on the board, which had been hard to come by in their matchup the previous day against CU as KC Dunne and Ashleigh Blovsky each picked up an RBI scoring Amber Getty and Dunne on the two plays.

The Panthers added to the lead in the third when Blovsky got her second RBI of the day as the junior singled home Karli Myers and then Paige Sant'Angelo made it 4-0 with a RBI groundout.

After getting the 4-0 lead, Maves proceeded to only allow one more baserunner as she finished off the Golden Eagles with a strikeout.
The first four hitters in the DU lineup accounted for all nine hits, eight of which came off CU starter Heidi Walburg.

Game 2 – Davenport 8, Cornerstone 2

Playing as the away team in the winner-take-all championship game, Davenport got the scoring started in the top of the first when freshman Alyssa Eastman belted a 3-run homerun to deep right center. The Golden Eagles scored one in the bottom half but DU got it right back in the third when Eastman doubled home Karli Myers.

After the Golden Eagles cut the margin to 4-2, the bats went quiet for the Panthers until the seventh when they plated four to put the game out of reach. Ashleigh Blovsky singled home KC Dunne which was followed by a triple from Alyssa Eastman that gave the freshman a career high five RBI in the game. Eastman would later score on a wild pitch to finish the scoring for the Panthers.

Emily Maves came on in relief of Eastman to shut the Golden Eagles down and was credited with the save to give her three on the season. Eastman got the win as she is now 16-2 on the year.

Davenport will now await their National Tournament Opening Round pairings as they will be announced on May 6. DU will serve as one of ten hosts around the country with the winners of each advancing to the NAIA Softball World Series in Georgia.

Post-Game Notes
The tournament championship is the third in school history for Davenport as they also claimed titles in 2011 and 2013…It marks the second straight season that DU has come out of the loser's bracket to win…The last two championship series have been played by all Grand Rapids schools – DU vs. Aquinas in 2013 and DU vs. Cornerstone this year
